Think and Grow Rich - Napoleon Hill

“All achievements, all earned riches, have their beginning in an idea.”
“You might well remember that nothing can bring you success but yourself.”
“If you are ready for the secret, you already possess one half of it.”

~ Napoleon Hill

"Think and Grow Rich" is arguably the most widely circulated book of the 20th century on the topic of personal success.

"Think and Grow Rich" by Napoleon Hill was first published back in 1937. The book was written with the encouragement of the billionaire businessman Andrew Carnegie towards the end of the Great Depression. The very first version of the book had the much longer title of "Think and Grow Rich; Teaching, for the First Time, the Famous Andrew Carnegie Formula for Money-Making, Based upon the Thirteen Proven Steps to Riches"

The book is loosely based on Hill's previous "The Law of Success" work where the author researched the lives of many successful American businessmen, investors and entrepreneurs. Think and Grow Rich is the result of many years research into the rich and successful, condensed into 13 simple principles.

Author and salesman Og Mandino once said the following about Napoleon Hill's classic Think and Grow Rich book "During the past twenty-five years I have been blessed with more good fortune than any individual deserves but I shudder to think where I'd be today, or what I'd be doing if I had not been exposed to Napoleon Hill's philosophy. It changed my life."

Think and Grow Rich Book Quotes

  • "We are what we are, because of the vibrations of thought which we pick up and register, through the stimuli of our daily environment."
  • "I know that I have the ability to achieve the object of my Definite Purpose in life, therefore, I demand of myself persistent, continuous action toward its attainment, and I here and now promise to render such action."
  • "One of the most common causes of failure is the habit of quitting when one is overtaken by temporary defeat. Every person is guilty of this mistake at one time or another."
  • "Do not wait; the time will never be "just right." Start where you stand, and work with whatever tools you may have at your command, and better tools will be found as you go along."
  • "All the breaks you need in life wait within your imagination. Imagination is the workshop of your mind, capable of turning mind energy into accomplishment and wealth."
  • "Big pay and little responsibility are circumstances seldom found together."
  • "Efffort only fully releases its reward after a person refuses to quit."
  • "Every adversity, every failure, every heartache carries with it the seed on an equal or greater benefit."
  • "Ideas are the beginning points of all fortunes."
  • "If you cannot do great things, do small things in a great way."
  • "Most great people have attained their greatest success just one step beyond their greatest failure."
  • "Nature cannot be tricked or cheated. She will give up to you the object of your struggles only after you have paid her price."

Daisy (데이지)-2006

Daisy is an urban melodrama about a young struggling art painter, the Interpol police detective she loves and a professional hitman for whom there is no escape. With a twist that is bound to make its audience think about their own perception about love, the film was shot entirely in The Netherlands, for the most part in the capital of Amsterdam, Haarlem and Epen.

TRAILER

PLOT
Jun Ji-hyun is a painting artist who makes her living by sketching portraits of people by charging 30 dollars for every portrait.

Jung Woo-sung is a professional hit man who sees Jun Ji-hyun painting in high mountains and instantly falls in love with her.

One day while Jun Ji-hyun is trying to cross a small channel connected by a narrow log, she accidentally falls down and in this incident loses her bag containing all her painting equipments. Jung Woo-sung who keeps watching this from a distance immediately runs for her rescue but by the time he reaches there, he finds her gone. He finds the bag she lost and gets the log replaced with a bridge. Jun Ji-hyun is taken by surprise by the sight of the bridge. Though initially she takes the bridge for a mere coincidence, she is much more moved when she finds her lost bag hanged in the middle of the bridge. She instantly completes her painting of high mountains and places it in the place of her bag as a gesture of thanks for the person who built the bridge for her.

From that day she starts receiving daisy flowers daily by 4.15pm sharp. As the days pass on she is touched by the humor of the person who is sending those flowers and develops a soft corner towards him. On the other side Jung Woo-sung is afraid she might be harmed if he starts moving close to her, especially for a profession like his. He thrashes his feelings and maintains a distance from her.

The story takes a interesting turn with the introduction of Lee Seong-jae in the movie. Lee Seong-jae is a cop associated with cracking the case of drug mafia. One day on his way to trace out the activities of drug dealers, he is encountered by Jun Ji-hyun. He asks her for his portrait and this continues for a few more days until one day the drug dealers come to know his hideout. In the mean time Jun Ji-hyun starts to believe that Lee Seong-jae is the one sending her daisy flowers and instantly falls in love with him. Lee Seong-jae also hides the fact for the fear of blowing up his entire cover. On the other hand Jung Woo-sung who has been constantly keeping an eye on Jun Ji-hyun and Lee Seong-jae's activities notices a few mafias advancing towards them with armed pistols. Jung Woo-sung instantly grabs his sniper and starts shooting the mafia. The situation takes a worse turn when Jung Woo-sung accidentally shoots Jun Ji-hyun in the neck by mistake. This leaves Jun Ji-hyun voiceless for her entire life and Lee Seong-jae is gushed with guilt for he considers himself responsible for this entire episode.

Lee Seong-jae is transfer back to Korea from Netherlands and Jun Ji-hyun is left alone, heartbroken. Jung Woo-sung can’t help himself with Jun Ji-hyun condition and starts showing up and moving close to her. Jun Ji-hyun is still in the memories of Lee Seong-jae and cant help herself forget him.

After an year Lee Seong-jae comes back to netherland and surprisingly shows up on Jun Ji-hyun’s doorsteps. He apologizes for the entire episode and leaves her in all tears. Meanwhile Lee Seong-jae's boss who sorts to solve the case behind this whole episode, hints to catch the guy who shot mafia with a sniper. Further investigation reveals his identity as professional hit man and they plan to catch him red-handed.
Lee Seong-jae's boss contracts Jung Woo-sung's dealer to kill Lee Seong-jae in a sketch to catch Jung Woo-sung. All will be set and the day on which Lee Seong-jae is supposed to be killed arrives. Lee Seong-jae shows up in a car surrounded secretly by many undercover cops. Lee Seong-jae would have come to know Jung Woo-sung as a friend of Jun Ji-hyun when he had been to apologise to her. Jung Woo-sung suddenly shows up and asks Lee Seong-jae for a private talk. Lee Seong-jae stalls all the cops saying he is going around with a friend and is later found head shot with in an isolated place (Though Jung Woo-sung obliges his real identity and refuses to kill, Lee Seong-jae is shot by some other assassinator belong to Jung Woo-sung group.)

Lee Seong-jae's boss hints the activities of the killer who killed Lee Seong-jae to Jun Ji-hyun in Lee Seong-jae funeral. Jun Ji-hyun instantly comes to know the person behind Lee Seong-jae murder. Meanwhile Lee Seong-jae's boss sketches a much tougher plan to catch Lee Seong-jae’s assassin by contracting himself for contract killing. On the other hand a few series of events leads Jun Ji-hyun to know that Jung Woo-sung was the one sending her daisy flowers. Jung Woo-sung who is all set to assassinate Lee Seong-jae's boss is takes by surprise when Jun Ji-hyun shows up asking him to stop. Jung Woo-sung instantly shows up but a stray bullet by another assassinator (The one responsible for Lee Seong-jae’s death) suppose to hit Jung Woo-sung hits Jun Ji-hyun and she dies.

Jung Woo-sung takes his part of revenge by killing and dissolving his entire gang responsible for Jun Ji-hyun death. Jung Woo-sung is shot in this event and is found walking alone in a lonely street. It can be assumed that even Jung Woo-sung dies shortly after.

Paper Daisy Tutorial

MATERIALS:*Any color crepe paper for flower petals
*Brown or Yellow crepe paper for flower centers
*Green crepe paper for leaves
*Covered wire ~ 30 gauge
*Stem wire ~ 18 gauge
*Floral tape
*Cotton Ball, approx 1 1/2 inches in diameter, 1 per flower
*Fine roll wire
*Wire cutters
*Scissor
*Hot glue & glue gun
*Spray glue

NOTE: You do not want to use a liquid glue when working with crepe paper, it can dissolve the paper or cause the color of the paper to bleed or run.

INSTRUCTIONS:

1. To make the flower center, place cotton ball in the center of a 6 inch square of brown or yellow crepe paper.
2. Gather the edges of the paper together and twist making a crepe paper covered ball with a tail or stem.3. Place stem wire up inside the tail, (I added a dab of hot glue to the cotton ball and stuck the wire end in it to keep the wire from slipping out), and wrap fine wire tightly up close to the base of the ball. Cut away excess paper and wrap stem with floral tape.4. To make petals, cut a strip of paper 18 inches long and 6 inches wide. Fold into fourths as shown below. The grain of the paper runs lengthwise.5. Make slits about 1 1/2 inches deep at both ends dividing it into thirds. This makes the side of the petals. Now round off the corners as shown below.6. Open this so you have an 18 inch strip. Fold in half lengthwise as shown below.7. Run a piece of wire along the folded edge in between the two layers of paper. Gather the paper up on this wire making a circle of petals. Place petals around the daisy center and tighten the wire. Wrap ends of wire around stem of flower. Trim away excess wire with a wire cutter.8. Wrap stem in floral tape. Gently stretch and twist tape around the stem.
9. Cut two 6 inch squares of green crepe paper. Cut in half to make four 6 inch by 3 inch pieces. Cut two 8 inch pieces of wire.11. Spay glue on side of two of the 6 inch by 3 inch pieces. Place wire down the center of the 6 inch length allowing some wire to hang over the edge. Place remaining piece of paper on top of the wire and gently press together, sealing the wire and fusing the paper pieces.
12. Trim into leaf shapes.
13. Using floral tape, tape leaves to stem.I think this traditional daisy would make a lovely package topper for a baby shower or little girls birthday gift. This is why I really ordered the book, with floral package toppers in mind.

P/s: Thank you Miss Sandy for sharing this tutorial!

I'd choose to be a daisy...

I'd choose to be a daisy,
If I might be a flower;
Closing my petals softly
At twilight's quiet hour;
And waking in the morning,
When falls the early dew,
To welcome Heaven's bright sunshine,
And Heaven's bright tear-drops too.
